Mirabel Eve (A Hattiesburg Home Birth)

I don’t think I’ve been more excited about photographing a birth than this one. Out of the 15 births that I’ve been able to document, only two of them have been home births. This was going to be one of them. But not only was it going to be an amazingly awesome home birth, this mama is a midwife! Hattiesburg is two hours away from me, and about twice as far as I typically agree to go for a birth. But I was willing to go the distance for this one. The only fear was that I wouldn’t make it in time – knowing that Heather’s first baby was born after just 6 hours of labor.

When I got a text from her hours before dawn on a November morning, Heather wasn’t quite sure if she was in labor or not. I got up and got ready to go, and waited for her to confirm before driving into the chilly darkness. I was praying the whole way there (while jamming out in my car, trying to stay awake), that I would make it in time! A little while after I passed into Mississippi, I was in awe of the majestic starry skies, and then saw a shooting star. Baby Mirabel Eve’s shooting star.

I never thought that I could be disappointed to see a beautiful newborn baby! I missed it! Things had moved so quickly that even if I had left my house the moment I received that first text, I still wouldn’t have made it in time. But what I was able to document were these beautiful moments together as a family of four!

And this little guy – he now shares his birthday with his baby sister! Heather’s babies are exactly 3 years apart!

They are one sweet little family!  Heather, I’m so glad I was able to get these moments for you!
