Jonnie was a few days past her due date with her second baby. She sent me a text around noon on a Saturday, letting me know that it seemed like labor was starting, although still inconsistent. I began collecting my things and making a new plan for my weekend. It was maybe about an hour later when I got another text that things seemed to be progressing quickly, and that they were getting ready to head to the hospital. Luckily, some friends were able to come over to stay with my napping kiddos, and I made my way to Touro as quickly as possible! I texted when I arrived, but I didn’t hear back and began to worry. I wasn’t sure if they made it or not, so after checking in with security, I stepped aside and called their doula, Franki Batten, to check on the status. She was still on her way, and guessed that Jonnie and Doug were as well since they had a longer drive.
As I’m on the phone with Franki, a frenzy of nurses, doctor, daddy, and mama go rushing by! When Jonnie arrived at the hospital, they went straight to the ER where Dr. du Treil met them. She was complete! Knowing that I was already at the hospital, they came upstairs into a L&D room, so there were some pictures! This was the fastest, most intense birth I’ve photographed!
This shows you how incredible childbirth really can be without all the interventions! Jonnie gave birth without any help from modern medicine, and was up straightening her hair and then on the floor playing with her son less than 2 hours later. She was AMAZING!
Their doula wrote out the different spellings of Dylan, to help them decide what was perfect!
It took a bit for this little boy to warm up to everything, so Jonnie met him out in the hallway, away from all the distractions, to snuggle her little guy! Soon, he showed some interest in his baby sister!
A mama, showing off her new baby girl to her own mama! I love this moment!
Jonnie & Doug, thank you so much for letting me share in your joy!
