In high school I had interest in becoming a midwife. Life went a different direction, and I became a photographer, wife, and mother instead. In 2009, I photographed the birth of a friend’s baby. It was the first birth I had ever seen, and I was in awe of the beauty of the birth process. I talked about it for weeks! When I was pregnant with my first baby in 2010, I knew that I wanted to have the birth photographed by a professional. There was no one in the New Orleans area offering birth photography at the time, so we managed to talk our favorite local photographer into giving it a shot. I am so glad that she agreed, and I have Evangeline’s birth beautifully documented! I was specializing in photographing weddings and portraits at the time, but doors quickly began opening when my baby was a few months old to begin documenting childbirth. In my first year of motherhood, I built up a portfolio of hospital, home, and cesarean births, and launched NOLA Birth Photographer in the fall of 2011.
Since then, I’ve added two little boys to our family, as well as new experiences and skills to offer growing families in New Orleans. My passion for childbirth and holistic living has continued to grow over the years, and I now offer birth doula support as a DONA International certified birth doula in addition to birth photography.
With 6 years of experience as a birth photographer, documenting these once in a lifetime, emotion filled moments is something that I love. I approach labor and birth with a quiet respect, capturing each emotion, while staying out of the way of the medical team. It is my goal to document each moment – the ones that you’ll remember forever, and the ones that may pass unnoticed. I would be honored to document the story of the day your baby was born!
